on their way!
It’s time to butt out
HOW is it possible in this day and age when a major golf
tournament such as the BMW International Open in
Munich is televised to an audience of millions worldwide
that we witness the pathetic sight of a caddie dragging
continually on a cigarette?
British player Richard Bland’s caddie was shown
smoking on the fairways and even on a green as Sergio
Garcia putted out. How pathetic that we have to witness
this! And the European Tour is even more pathetic in
allowing smoking on the course.
How can major sponsors such as BMW and Emirates not
help stamp out this habit by insisting events they put such
huge amounts in to be smoke-free? It would have been nice
to see Bland win, but then we would have had to witness
the caddie puffing away at the presentation, no doubt.
Thank goodness Australian and American golf bodies
have banned this disgraceful behaviour. The sooner
the rest of the world catches up so our kids don’t have to
witness this sad sight on a golf course, the better.
Whatever happened to a safe workplace?
